Dubai Mall developer Emaar to list on stock market

The developer behind one of the world's largest shopping malls and the world's

tallest tower, said Sunday it will launch an initial public offering for part of its retail

business in Dubai next month.

The Dubai-based developer said in a statement that it expects to sell at least 15

percent of the company known as Emaar Malls Group in the offering. Like Emaar properties,

the new company will trade on the Dubai Financial Market.Emaar's retail business includes

the vast Dubai Mall, the Mideast's biggest shopping center.

It is making 30 percent of the offering available to individual investors and the

rest to institutional investors.Hussam al Husseiny, a chartered market technician, said the

news will sway investors who were concerned about liquidity in the market against selling

their shares in Emaar."

These little details that Emaar gave will validate the share for people," he said. The

company's retail and malls arm recorded $340 million in revenue in the first six months of

2014. The Dubai government owns around a third of Emaar Properties, which has total

Ganesh Chaturthi

HISTORY

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi finds its origin in the Maratha reign, with

Chatrapati Shivaji starting the festival. The belief lays in the story of the birth of Ganesha,

the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Although there are various stories attached to

his birth, the one most relevant is shared here. Goddess Parvati was the creator of Ganpati.

She, in the absence of Lord Shiva, used her sandalwood paste to create Ganesha and put

him to guard while she had gone for bathing. While she was gone, Lord Shiva got into a

fight with Ganesha as he did not allow him to enter, as per his mother`s orders. Enraged,

Lord Shiva cut off Ganesha`s head. When Parvati saw this sight, she took the form of

Goddess Kali and threatened to destroy the world. This worried everyone and they

requested Lord Shiva to find a solution and calm the rage of Goddess Kali. Shiva then

ordered all his followers to immediately go and find a child whose mother has her back

towards her child in negligence and bring his head. The first child seen by the followers

was that of an elephant and they, as ordered, cut his head and brought to Lord Shiva. Lord

Shiva immediately placed the head on Ganesha`s body and brought it to life again. The

rage of Maa Kali was calmed and Goddess Parvati was overwhelmed, once again. All the

Lords blessed Ganesha and the day is today celebrated for the same reason.

 CELEBRATION

Ganesh Chaturthi preparations commence from almost a month before the

festival. The celebrations last for around ten days (from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to

Ananta Chaturdashi). On the first day a clay idol of Lord Ganesha is installed in homes.

Homes are decorated with flowers. Temples witness the visit of large number of devotees.

Poojas are performed and bhajans are chanted. Often, families gather together to celebrate

the festival. Localities organize and arrange for pandals and install large idols of Lord

Ganesha to celebrate the festival with friends and family. On the final day of the

celebrations, the idol of Lord Ganesha is taken on the streets. People exhibit their

enthusiasm and joy in the form of dancing and singing on the streets along with the idol.

The idol is finally immersed in the river or sea. The day witnesses a large number of

devotees expressing their happiness and offering their prayers. more >>

Lalu-Nitish experiment succeeds

PATNA: The Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress Party

alliance in Bihar, formed to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party won six seats in the

assembly by-poll.

The BJP, which won only four seats, suffered a setback with this performance as

the Narendra Modi magic could not work in the assembly by-poll.The ‘Modi wave’ was

largely successful in Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, cornering RJD, JD-U and the

Congress by winning 31 out of 40 seats.

The grand alliance was formed in the state after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav

and JD-U's Nitish Kumar, both previous chief ministers of Bihar, joined hands to fight the

BJP in the recently-concluded by-elections in ten constituencies in Bihar. With this win,

these three parties are likely to ramp up political sentiment against the BJP and its allies in

the state, claiming that the latter has limited appeal in the state, and may not be in a

position to form the next state government in 2015.

Earlier this month, sharing a dais for the first time since 1991, Lalu and Nitish

joined hands to campaign together for the upcoming by-elections, to be held in ten

constituencies in the state.   more >>

Jackie chan son's drug arrest

Jackie chan apologized to the public Wednesday over his son's detention on

drug charges in Beijing, saying he's ashamed and saddened.

The Hong Kong film star wrote on his microblog that Jaycee Chan would

have to face the consequences of his actions, but that they would do so together."

Regarding this issue with my son Jaycee, I feel very angry and very shocked.

As a public figure, I'm very ashamed. As a father, I'm heartbroken," Chan wrote.

Jaycee Chan, 31, and Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko, 23, were detained last

Thursday, becoming the latest high-profile celebrities to be ensnared in one of China's

biggest anti-drug crackdowns in two decades.

Police said both actors tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the

drug, and that 100 grams (3.53 ounces) of it were taken from Chan's home."Jaycee and I

together express our deep apology to society and the public,"

Chan wrote.Local media reported that the elder Chan and Ko's father traveled to

Beijing to meet with their sons this week. The reports could not be immediately

confirmed.Extending from his fame as an actor and singer, the elder Chan is a high-profile

public figure in mainland China and was named by Beijing as an anti-drug ambassador in 2009."

I hope all young people will learn a lesson from Jaycee and stay far from the

harm of drugs," Chan wrote. "I say to Jaycee that you have to accept the consequences

when you do something wrong. As your father, I'm going to face the road together with

you."Ko was part of an anti-drug campaign two years ago in which he appeared in a public

service announcement declaring: "I don't use drugs." Chinese state broadcaster CCTV

showed him weeping and apologizing for setting a poor example and making "a big mistake."     more >>

Black history

Black history has been a progressive climb from without the lowest echelons of

society during slavery to the highest. When you think of black history, we often think of the

civil rights movement, of John Brown’s violent protests, of the Underground Railroad.

But black history doesn’t end with any one event. It is always in the process of

being made every day.Even in the last ten years, huge steps forward have been made at the

very top governmental positions by notable and highly qualified black Americans who are

making all of us proud in the contributions they are making to America.

Colin Powell was an accomplished general who demonstrated with quiet dignity

and authority that he could lead many men into battle. He was rewarded for his valiant

efforts finally reaching the very top levels of the government serving as President Bush’s

Secretary of State in his first addministration .

Through out the halls of government and anywhere Secretary Powell served, he

was treated with respect and the honor that he deserved for serving his country so well.

It was a proud day when she stepped into that office showing how far America

had come from the days when blacks could not eat in the same restaurants as whites or

drink from the same drinking fountains. And her service has been just as distinguished,

meeting with heads of state from Africa to Europe to the Middle East to South America and

making great accomplishments throughout her career.

These two black Americans are true examples of Doctor King’s vision of people

who were recognized not for the color of their skin but the content of their character. Their

excellence as leaders and their amazing resume’s they brought to their jobs provide

tremendous inspiration to black boys and girls in school that they too can rise up in this

society and go as far as they want to go if they let their natural gifts and skills come to the surface.

They do not need a government program or special help to succeed. America has

far to go but Dr. Rice and General Powell are examples that the system can reward black

people of excellence and will not over look the contributions they can make to America’s

future. And now we are on that part of black history that is yet to be. The future is a part of

black history yet to be written. And we witness another black leader of excellence preparing

to be considered for the very top position of power in the country, perhaps in the world, the presidency of the United States.

General Powell and Dr. Rice, Barrack Obama will not be judged as a black man or

in the context of the racial struggle in this country. Already he is being admired and praised

for his leadership, his eloquence and his ability to bring new vision to this country. It is a

day of pride for all of black America to see Barrack Obama be considered for this position.

He will have to work hard and be judged on his talents, skills, experience and ability to lead.

But it’s a testimony to how far the country has come that he has just as much of a chance

to win that election as any other candidate.

He wins he will knock down one more barrier to black people and throughout African American society, children will be able to say, there is nothing I cannot do if I try hard. And that is the vision every civil right leader since the civil war has wanted for blacks in America.

A Famous Mathematician

Sventeenth century Mathematician Johannes keplar defined some basic

rules for the how the planets move, and g iven his predilections for contemplating spheres,

he suggested in 1611 that the most efficient way to stack spheres was in a pyramid

formation. But he was unable to prove it in a mathematically satisfactory way, and the idea

remained unproven for 400 years.

New Scientist reports that a scientist named Thomas Hales successfully

confirmed Kepler's hypothesis to be true this past Sunday with help from a computer.Hales

first proved it himself by hand in a 300-page paper in 1998, but his solution was only

deemed 99% certain to be correct.

He enlisted help from computers under Isabelle and HOL Light, went to work

formally validating each of the steps in logic required to arrive at the conclusion that

spheres are most efficiently arranged in a pyramid shape.

Hales is glad at having his hard work confirmed to be totally correct, but the real

significance of the Flyspeck Project is that computers can do the tedious work of double-

checking logical proofs while mathematicians are left to ponder their next great problems.

This technology cuts the mathematical referees out of the verification process,

Hales told New Scientist. "Their opinion about the correctness of the proof no longer

matters."Grocers around the world rejoice as they continue stacking oranges the way they

always have.   more information >>

never before revealed information

Dear Friend,

Do you imagine that you are distantly related to a movie star, president or some

other noted person? Most people wonder about their ancestors or other relatives who they

do not know. After all, you never know if you are a distant cousin of someone famous

unless you bother to take a look at your family history.

Years ago, families would keep family trees in the family bible. They would write

in the births, deaths and marriages of all of the members of the family. Very few families, if

any, do this today. Most people have no idea who their great-grandparents are or anything

about them. But that does not keep them from wondering.

If you are like me, you wonder about your relatives and ancestors and want to

know more about them. After the book "Roots" came out, it got a lot of people into the mode

of learning about their family history. Alex Haley's journey was truly remarkable because he

wrote the book over a course of years when there was no internet to help him. But thanks to

the internet and many government agencies going to computer technology.
